Back Pain/Sciatica
95% of back pain is mechanical in origin, and can be treated by a Chiropractor.
Three of the most common causes of back pain can present with or without leg pain (sciatica), these include:-
- Low back pain due to irritation of the joints in your back
- Disc herniation
- Nerve root irritation
Low back pain due to irritation of the joints in your back (and or Sacro-iliac joint irritation) can often involve muscle strains, ligament sprains, muscle spasm and or referred pain. This type of back pain is often misdiagnosed as a disc problem, but is more commonly a few muscles and joints not working as they should do.
It needn’t be a problem which needs a lot of treatment, and can often be resolved with chiropractic treatment very quickly. Here at Wiltshire Chiropractic we can use Dry Needling techniques (acupuncture) along with Chiropractic manipulation or mobilization and a number of different soft tissue release techniques.
The combination of these techniques are aimed at getting you back on the road as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Disc herniation (often known as a disc bulge or slip) often involves the nerve root and can cause mild to severe neurological deficits such as pins and needles, numbness and muscle weakness in the thigh, calf and or foot.
Nerve root irritation is due to compression of the nerves as they exit the spinal cord and can be the result of degenerative changes as well as a number of other things.
There are however a number of techniques, in which our Chiropractors are skilled, that can reduce the effect of disc bulges and or degenerative changes on the nerves. In the majority of patients these techniques can often relieve most, if not all, of your symptoms.
Many of our patients have suffered with pain for years and are amazed that their condition can be treated. You do not need to live on painkillers, we have successfully treated many people with these conditions.
